# January Joy 4: Take a crisp winter walk

Taking walks and discovering parks, zoos, and hidden corners of cities is one of our favorite things to do. It is in fact the perfect date, as we will inevitably stumble upon unexpected little cafés or places we wouldn't otherwise have found. When the boy and I were first dating, I still had a year and a half to go at university, so we had to be long-distance. We would see each other once per month, sometimes twice. He would visit me in Barcelona, I would come to Holland or we would meet half-way, in places like Paris, Geneva, Bern or Basel. Those were nice times, we would travel all the time, and seeing each other in real life (as opposed to on the Skype screen) was always magic.

These days, when we take walks together it is like going back to the beginning, and for some reason the calmness of a walk makes it easy for us to talk about our dreams, goals, memories or just any random subject like the importance of water in the life of fish.  I am looking forward to the weekend when we will for sure be going out for a walk.  One of the things I like the most about The Netherlands (and certainly a consequence of the sh***y lovely rainy weather) is that we are surrounded by green most of the time, and there are parks everywhere.

  1. I also love a good walk, some of our best days are when we stroll around Edinburgh. There is an old pub about an hour's walk from the flat that we keep meaning to walk to but the weather has been so awful it has put us off. Maybe this weekend!! Enjoy yours xox

    1. Thanks, enjoy your weekend too. And yes... you should go this weekend, hopefully the weather will cooperate. There is something special about crisp winter days, when the sky is blue and the air is fresh.

  2. One of the best things about getting my puppy in April is that she encourages us out of the house every day for walks. I have even started to appreciate the rainy ones!

    1. Yeah...dogs are a great way to *force* you to go out walking, to talk to people, to discover places. I think it's a great thing.

  3. Hola Amanda, qué divertido tener esos lugares tan cerca.

  4. Sometimes reading about your life is like reading an alternate version of my relationship with Bunny. So many similarities!

Recreating the magic of early dates is always so lovely, especially when they include such simple but fulfilling activities. A quiet day out together just enjoying nature and each other's company is wonderful and I'm so glad you guys enjoyed it.

    1. It's funny huh? It is one of the things I love the most about the "blogosphere" you are able to connect and reach people with very similar experiences that you wouldn't otherwise have known, it is magic in a way :)

And you are right... often simple things are really the ones that hide the joy (as clichéd and hallmark-y as that sounds).
