Switzerland
I was away for the most part of last week as I went by myself on a trip to visit friends and family in Switzerland. It had been almost 4 years since I saw some of my close friends... every year we say we will go and then life happens and we keep postponing the trip.
It is always bittersweet to visit places where you used to live. They mostly look the same, but they are not your city anymore (except for certain places... Barcelona will always feel like home). It is different with people. No matter how long we've been apart, catching up over a cup of tea is so easy and it feels like we never stopped seeing each other. I came back with a big chunk of cheese and of course, the obligatory bars of chocolate. The weather was truly glorious... it felt like summer all over again, except as a result I am now recovering from a cold (must have been the drastic change of temperatures, as the chilly weather starts to settle in The Netherlands).
I love how much Switzerland looks like a postcard, and cows are my friends. Walking alongside the large ruminants was such a fun thing to do.

Love your photos. Switzerland is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI got to your blog via some others (a roundabout route that I can no longer remember). Clicked on it because of the name - I LOVE poppies! And who doesn't like ice cream...

Thanks so much :) Switzerland is definitely beautiful !
DeleteThose are beautiful photos! Glad you had a nice time visiting with your friends (and the cows). It makes me miss the Austrian alps, we haven't been there in far too long.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, visiting someplace you've lived before is always a strange experience... That is so many places for me that it gets hard to feel connected to each. There are definitely a few where I've left little pieces of myself, and that have come with me in their own way too. Utrecht is one such!
Thanks ! The alps are so so beautiful... I think I miss the mountains too. You don't see ANY hills at all here, and just having them as a view was kind of special.
DeleteIt is exactly like you say, you leave pieces of you in every place you live in. (I really like Utrecht, I love that you can pretty much smell the history).
Cows are my mom's favorite animals! I think she would have loved it there :)
ReplyDeleteI saw the rest of your pictures on FB, Switzerland looks absolutely amazing! Will definitely have to add it to my Wanderlust list
Oh she definitely would have loved it.
DeleteOnce you are here it is quite easy to go to Switzerland, and there is a lot to see, between the Italian part, the Swiss-German and the Romande (French speaking) parts. Each part is quite different.
Ooh, yeah Switzerland is lovely! I only visited there once, but it's a country like no other. I am glad you got to go on this trip, too. You've sacrificed so many things lately, so I am very happy to see you go out and do the things that are important to you and make you feel good.
ReplyDeleteAnd cows are adorable :)
Good luck with the cold. I hope you feel better soon.
It was really really nice to have a break, cut routine, and visit friends and family :)
DeleteCows are super sweet.
I am finally feeling better, but I was still sick most of last week, it took longer than I expected but at least I did not get a fever!
I've always wanted to visit Switzerland. It is so picturesque and reminds me of Sound of Music (odd, I know). Apparently I have some Swiss relatives there that used to send us chocolate at the holidays. I should look them up...
ReplyDeleteOh yes some landscapes are definitely straight out of the Sound of Music. You should definitely look up those relatives, it is a nice place to see.
DeleteMil gracias! Y muchos saludos!
Aw, you should have come said hi! ;) Where did you go...can't tell if that's maybe GVA or Lugano in the first pic?
ReplyDeleteI know, I thought of it. But I was just a day and a half in Geneva, and then I went to Bern... I'll let you know if there's a next time!
