Luxembourg
We went for a weekend trip to Luxembourg this weekend, and it was glorious. It felt like a vacation, more so because it was oh so warm. I wish I had checked the weather report because I was a bit over-dressed.
The city is beautiful, with its old bridges, a valley by the river and all the green surrounding it. There are parks everywhere and the most amazing playgrounds for children too.
We had breakfast at Chocolate House (as recommended by Dila). With such a name we were not going to miss the place. I had an almond-raspberry hot chocolate spoon, together with croissants, bread and different jams and chocolate paste. If you find yourself in Luxembourg, take a look at their huge cakes. Unfortunately we didn't get to try those. (You'll find them near the old center at 20 rue Marché aux Herbes).
Later during the day we met the lovely Fiona and her husband Rasmus and we had the most delicious ice-cream at Bargello (13-15 rue du Fort Elisabeth). I tried "Crema Fiorentina" (milk, eggs and lemon zest) and "Peach". You could really taste the fruit and it was oh so creamy. Mark had chocolate and mango and it was equally good. It was so hard to make a decision. Afterwards we went to an outdoor festival for children and families alike, called 'La nuit de merveilles', where there were all kinds of rather quirky jugglers, acrobats and street artists. It was a really nice evening... watching all the kids go crazy and stare in awe at the giant butterflies and a man riding a chicken that was walking around the park.
The next day we went to Metz, in France, I will tell you about it soon, but, we pretty much spent the whole day eating delicious stuff from every bakery we found. Weekend road trips are definitely the best.

Oh Luxembourg looks beautiful! And I would never miss a place named Chocolate House either. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks ! Have a great week you too, and Luxembourg was definitely beautiful!
DeleteChocolate House? That sounds like the most delicious restaurant. It sounds like Luxembourg treated you well, all in all.
ReplyDeleteYep, it definitely treated us well. And I know, Chocolate House!!! (It didn't disappoint!)
DeleteSounds and looks like a lovely weekend! Luxembourg City is very beautiful, I remember being impressed with how green it was. Yes, weekend road trips are a definite perk of being on the continent; you can get so 'far', to someplace so different, with just a few hours drive! I'm looking forward to that once we're back in Europe.
ReplyDeleteIt was absolutely beautiful. And yes, all that green made an impression on us too. And road trips really are the best, there is so much to see!
DeleteWhy oh why is Europe so much better than the US? I've been feeling a bit nostalgic and sad lately about not taking our last planned trip to Italy. It got eaten by starting a new job. You've got it figured out. I just need to live CLOSER to all of this great stuff.
ReplyDeleteOne day, one day. Or you could take a trip and go to a bunch of places... It never ceases to amaze me how much there is to see and how relatively closeby it all is.
DeleteI'm so glad you came, it was fun to spend time together again after so many blog comments and messages. The Chocolate House is a favourite of mine, especially in winter when their chilli hot chocolate just hits the spot! xx
ReplyDeleteIt was really really nice to see you and hang out again :) I can imagine how chilli hot chocolate would be perfect for the winter!
DeleteOh, Luxumbourg is a lovely place. The country is tiny, but really spectacular, both in terms of nature and in terms of gorgeous historic buildings.
ReplyDeleteOn another note: I love how you write brief bakery reviews for every place you go. Your love of good baking is such a central thread on your blog.
Yes, it definitely is spectacular.
DeleteHaha, we have such a sweet tooth that we just have to try it all :)
You are making me want to visit all of these amazing places!
ReplyDeleteYou should, one day :) And everything is so close by that you could see Luxembourg, France, Germany and maybe even Belgium in the same trip.
