These days.

Time is going so slow lately, I wish I had a fast-forward button for life. We have been busy with doctor appointments, which in a way is exciting. Social medicine is great, but it sucks that you get a different doctor every time. At the same time, they only have 6 doctors at the polyclinic so it is starting to feel a little bit like family.  I am not sure they remember us, but we remember them so it makes it more comfortable. So far we only had a bad experience... one of the doctors is a guy, and I was not at ease the first time given the fact that in accordance to the Dutch's frugal nature they refuse to provide patients with disposable surgical gowns. What ! He was also classical Dutch in his cold approach... I don't need small talk over our next vacation plan, but some explanations would be appreciated.

Anyhow, we have been filling the time finding new places to drink weird sweet stuff, like Taiwanese Bubble Tea, walking in the city, getting small gifts for friends and family and making fancy breakfast (hello eggs benedict) at home.
What have you been up to?

  1. So interesting about non-disposable gowns!
Glad to read an update and it's great to know you're doing good.

  2. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TELL ME THAT IT'S POSSIBLE TO MAKE EGG'S BENEDICT AT HOME. I spent 3 weeks in the US... eating egg's benedict minimum twice a week. I gained 10 pounds In 3 weeks.

And not sure if this helps but I hate the disposable gowns... so I just wear skirts and a tee. I forgot this recently and wore a dress and yeah well that's awkward when they decided to do a pelvic exam, followed by the doppler because I ended up sitting there for a really long time all exposed. But honestly at this point... I have no dignity left.

    1. Haha, you can totally make eggs benedict at home oops. On top of it it is easy, as long as you don't stop whipping (the sauce).

And yeah... the shock was with the first appointment, afterwards I was like OK, I'm not gonna care anymore, there goes my dignity too. Skirts and a tee sounds like a good plan but not sure if they would allow it here...

  3. Isn't bubble tea awesome? I love it!

The medical center I go to also doesn't use disposable gowns, they have cloth gowns that they wash/sterilize. Frankly, I don't like either type of gowns because they are always too big and never close properly. I, too, have stopped caring about my dignity while wearing those things.

Glad to hear you are doing ok.

    1. Bubble tea is delicious I love the tapioca balls.

And yeah, the gowns never fit, but at least you are semi-covered, oh well...

  4. Ah, the lack of gowns and explanations...the whole experience of pregnancy can be so ...intrusive. My gynecologist is a guy, I know the weird feeling. I did not go through fertility treatments to get Luka and Zoe, but from week 5 of our pregnancy, since they were twins, we had SO MANY doctor's appointments! (1 per week during the 1st trimester, 1 every 15 days during the second trimester and 2 per week during the third trimester...yes, two per week!) As Alice said above, by the time they were born I had little dignity left..then I lost it all during breastfeeding LOL. Now I honestly avoid going to the doctor as much as I can!

    1. Wow, that is a whole lot of appointments, and yeah, it is weird but as long as you don't think too much about it...
And yes, I think the dignity started leaving me already.

  5. I love love love bubble tea!

Now that I can comment on your blog, I just wanted to say that I've been thinking of you and hope things are going well. We don't actually get given gowns here. When I see my gynae, I just take of my skirt/pants/hike up my dress and get a sheet to cover my lower half while she examines me - no gowns here!

    1. Thanks so much... we are still waiting (oh how hard that is). I would be happy with a sheet to cover my lower half, here you just sit there literally half naked, but well, you just forget to think about it.
