Buscando tesoros

It seems it was only yesterday that I played Treasure Hunt for "La vuelta al Mundo" for the first time, but that was already 3 years ago, when this place was only starting. Lately, it is difficult to find the time to go out and make the effort to play the game every month, but this time I was determined to find all the treasures and here they are. It was, again, so much fun to go around with the camera ready and my eyes and my senses alert, and such a satisfaction whenever I found a treasure and ticked it off the list. Here is the complete set, and here you can see the treasures found all over the world.

This month for the photographic game " La vuelta al mundo"*,  Jackie challenged us to find pink everywhere: whether in gardens, still life or urban environments, the color had to flood the image. One of the things I love the most about spring in these northern latitudes is that after the long, dark winter we get to witness nature coming back in its full force, an explosion of colors. It's almost as if there was a giant party and confetti was thrown all over the place. Here is my contribution to this month's photographic challenge.  It got me thinking of one of my favorite movies ever, Jeux d'enfants (Love me if you dare) as they play "La vie en Rose" over and over again. (If you haven't watched it, I dare you to! Cap ou pas cap?)

Gates and fences for 'La vuelta al mundo'

This month for the photographic game  " La vuelta al mundo"*,  Jackie challenged us to find gates and fences, be creative and shot them in an interesting manner. Some of the photos were taken at the Marine Headlands National Park, just across the Golden Gate bridge. Some others were taken at Baker Beach in San Francisco and at the Pigeon Point lighthouse, between San Francisco and Monterey. The last ones were taken on a sunny Sunday visiting a farm with Sara (and her cute little boy). It was a really fun day: feeding the cows, smelling the hay and building a Duplo castle (well, that was Mark and Kyle).

This month for the photographic game  " La vuelta al mundo"Jackie challenged us to find green everywhere... bonus points for finding it elsewhere than in nature, preferably in urban environments.

Dreaming of London.

This month for the photographic game  " La vuelta al mundo"Jackie challenged us to show the world the stories that happen in our beds. Normally our beds are the scenery for all kinds of activities: reading, organizing, relaxing, watching movies... It was about documenting those little gems of everyday that make life special. If you don't know what I am talking about, here is the link to Casi en Serio, Jackie's blog that is like an overdose on joy and loveliness. Tu Navidad para La Vuelta al Mundo (Christmas for LVM)

Christmas dinner and table setting almost ready: I made Vegetable tart, Spinach lasagne, Parmesan chicken and Fruit cake.

This month for the photographic game  " La vuelta al mundo*"Jackie challenged us to show the world how we celebrate Christmas in our home, our city, our country, within our families. This game is always a great excuse to be alive, to go out and explore our cities. If you don't know what I am talking about, here is the link to Casi en Serio, Jackie's blog that is like an overdose on joy and loveliness. Anyone can join this game: every month a new photographic challenge is prompted, if you are interested the instructions are here. To be honest I hadn't participated in the last few months, sometimes the theme seemed too hard and intimidating for me (Portraits), or they were focused on photography of interiors (I don't have a very good control of light yet, and I hate photos with flash). July and August hosted my favorite themes (Treasure Hunt and Travel Journal), but I did not even post the only 2 treasures I found and we didn't go anywhere until the end of August. When the theme was "The sidewalk" I only managed to take one half decent pic.

Anywhow, without further ado, here is the link to my set in Flickr on Christmas. Some of the pics have already been shown in the blog, so in this post I am only adding the truly new pics, as well as a short explanation of what was going own. Be sure to check out the international chain of photos at the end of this post.

Playing scrabble and eating turrón de almendras (nougat) is a favorite family tradition.

Starting the holiday season with a light festival, St. Lucy's candlelight in Gouda.
Holidays are about compromise and blending traditions, our little tree is the proof of it.
This one's a favorite, aren't these tiny ornaments just a little bit too cute?

Yellow

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This month for " La vuelta al mundo*"Jackie challenged us to look for circles everywhere: in an urban environment, at home, in nature. This month has been crazy, and cycles are closing because it is coming to an end, with renewed energy and ideas. We enjoyed a lot this busy time of  relax (if that makes any sense) with family and friends. I will keep you posted on all the things we have been up to.For now here are the circles I found. And as always, here is the link to Casi en Serio to look at all the circles found elsewhere in the globe.

Algo acerca de mí (Something about me)

A quién amas?"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This month for " La vuelta al mundo*", Jackie invited us to share something about us: "Who we are, what we dream, our work, unforgettable things, what makes you cry, whom we love". The only condition was to include a little explanatory text. So here we go...

*Remember, this group is open to anyone who wants to participate, you do not have to be a professional, just do your best and try to learn. There are people all over the world playing this game every month ! Come join! Here is a detailed explanation on how to start ! Also, do not forget to visit Casi en Serio for the chain of posts. Happy personal travelling around the world.
I am a vet, and I love cows, they are such curious animals !
You can tell a lot from me by taking a look at the turquoise bookshelf.

a. Una imagen de nuestra boda. / A snippet of our wedding.
b. Viajar me vuelve loca / I am crazy about travelling.
c. Colecciono recortes, fotos, envolturas recuerdos... / In this box I keep scraps, photos, souvenirs, memories....
d.. / Julio Cortazar a free ticket to a magic world, right here.
e. Aprender idiomas siempre me resultó fáci,y  útil !! / It was always easy (and useful) for me to learn new languages.
f. / Ever since I learnt how to read I am always looking for new adventures, stories, fairy tales...
Me encanta encontrar nuevas recetas, hacer experimentos, descubrir nuevas combinaciones.

Cooking is therapy for me. I love to find new recipes, experiment, discover combinations. The process of making everything ready, to see how the ingredients mix and transform into something else calms me down. The best part is when people love the things I cook.

La vuelta al mundo: Diptychs

It is that time of the month. When all over the World people on the photographic challenge started by Jackie Rueda show their photos for the group "La vuelta al Mundo". This time, for us, it was indeed a true challenge because we had to make diptychs and we had no idea how. Good for me the boy likes to learn and is into photo editing, so I take the pictures and he does the backstage work. Be sure to check the group's pool in Flickr, because there are some awesome, crazy-talented photographers out there. You should also go back to Casi en Serio where Jackie will link to everyone participating in this worldwide photographic chain.  And because you can't wait anymore here is what we came up with (click on the images to enlarge):

This final one was not uploaded to the group because we are not the authors of the photographs, however consider it a bonus track. It is my mom, in Puerto Vallarta (Mexico) circa 2009 and my mother in law in Surinam, circa 1981. Funny huh?

Bicycles

are such an important part of dutch everyday life and culture that I was jumping up and down when I found out that they were the very subject for this month's challenge that Jackie proposed for La vuelta al Mundo. So many photographic opportunities. They have bikes in all kinds and forms here. They have them with baby seats in the back and in the front. With an attached wagon, with a basket for groceries, double bikes, family bikes... and for the tiny ones they even have some without pedals so toddlers can learn their balance. When I moved to Holland, a bike was my welcome gift from my father in law. We painted it aqua green of course. As a mexican, it is quite impressive that you can actually travel the whole country by bike. There is a "bike lane" or to use the dutch term, fietspad, all over the place. So, after this long intro, here is my contribution to the group's pool.

La Vuelta al Mundo: Gente de espaldas

This month for La vuelta al mundo the fun and versatile Jackie asked us to take photos of people from the back. This is my contribution. It was fun and hard at the same time, specially when trying to "steal" pictures from strangers. I have to recognize, though, that some of this pics are from our archives, and to give credit where is due, some of the pics were obviously taken by the boy (we always kind of do the assignments together). Did you do it? Hope you had fun with the challenge.
